Billing Revolution announced a major mobile payments deal today with Retail Data Systems (RDS), North America’s largest provider of POS systems. This is a big deal, because it’s the first major announcement I’ve seen where a point of sale provider can actually integrate into the consumer’s experience on the mobile phone. The Billing Revolution system is very cool and an extremely user friendly experience. Full disclosure – I’m on their board of advisors.

Consumer driven mobile payments are a trend to watch – in my opinion far more interesting than the hype around announcements like Square‘s merchant services. You will see much more to come on this company and this type of mobile commerce. More on my opinions in this mobile commerce interview.
